FSC® certified, PaperWise and other sustainable paper types

    Environmentally friendly paper types

At De Toekomst, we love nature and we like to show that as a sustainable agency. We work with FSC® certified paper, PaperWise, Stone paper, Vibers and other sustainable paper types and materials, among others. Our paper is 100% recycled! We are happy to introduce you to a number of paper types that make our green heart beat faster.

    100% recycled paper

At De Toekomst, we use 100% recycled paper from Balancepure, Nautilus, Cyclus and Cocoon, among others.
With recycled paper, existing old paper is mixed with water and dirt and ink are removed from the paper. Once that has happened, the paper is processed into “new” paper. Recycling paper offers various benefits, such as reducing energy and water consumption, reducing the number of trees felled and lowering CO2 emissions.

Unfortunately, recycled paper cannot be recycled endlessly. The fibres from old paper last a maximum of 7 times. During the recycling process, these paper fibres lose part of their strength and become shorter and shorter. That is why new long wood fibres are added to the old fibres each time. These new wood fibres come from sustainably managed forests.

    FSC® certified paper

We choose to preserve forests and therefore use FSC® certified paper for our print and printed matter. Paper is made from wood: environmentally friendly and one of the few renewable raw materials. It is therefore important to take good care of our forests so that we can continue to use wood and paper forever. By using FSC paper, we contribute to the protection of our forests worldwide and to a healthy living environment for people and animals around the world. The FSC mark stands for responsible wood and paper. We are therefore proud to place the FSC certified mark on our printed matter.

    Cradle to Cradle paper

Cradle to Cradle paper is new in our range of environmentally friendly paper types. This certified paper is fully compostable and can therefore be returned to nature as nutrition.

This paper type is very suitable for creative and striking expressions. It concerns broad uncoated design papers in four shades and two surfaces. The standard quality is supplied with a smooth surface, and there is also a rough variant with high bulk (1.4), characterized by a rough surface. With C2C paper, you are assured of an environmentally friendly product.

    Paper made from agricultural waste

PaperWise is a paper type that is made entirely from leaves and stems left over from the harvest (tree-free). When processing crops such as rice, wheat, barley, corn, maize, hemp and sugar cane, as much as 80% of the plant remains as residual material in the form of stems and leaves; we call this agricultural waste. Most of this waste is currently burned, causing valuable raw materials to be lost and environmental pollution to soil and air to occur, such as high ash concentrations and smog formation.

PaperWise uses this agricultural waste by using it as a raw material for paper and cardboard. This not only has an environmental impact (47% lower than paper from trees and 29% lower than recycled paper), it also has a social impact. Where agricultural waste is normally worthless for farmers in India and South America, where PaperWise production sites are located, and is therefore burned, PaperWise turns it into a source of income. Where small-scale poor farmers normally only receive income for 20% of the plant, the food, they now also receive income for the 80%, the agricultural waste, of the plant. Partly thanks to PaperWise, the factories in India and South America can invest in local projects in the fields of education, healthcare and infrastructure, while the manufacturing process is focused on safety, zero waste and preservation of ecology.

Paper made from waste residues of stone

Another tree-free paper type is stone paper. This paper type consists of 80% stone instead of tree fibres. Stone is ground into powder (calcium carbonate) and mixed with 20% recycled HDPE, a clean plastic consisting of carbon and hydrogen. A major advantage of stone paper is its high tear resistance and the fact that the material is waterproof. This makes the material suitable for graphic products that need to last a long time or are used outdoors. Think of cycling or walking maps, posters, but also notebooks. Spill a cup of coffee or tea over it? No problem, wipe it with a dry cloth and nothing has happened.

The footprint of stone paper is 67% lower than pulp paper. The material is produced without using water, toxins or bleaching agents. By comparison: in the production of 1 tonne of pulp paper, 2700 litres of water are used; with stone paper, this is 0. Stone paper is also KIWA certified and has a C2C silver certificate.

    Paper made from elephant grass

Vibers is a paper type made from elephant grass that grows on vacant land in the Netherlands. Elephant grass is a fast-growing crop that absorbs large amounts of CO2, 4 times more than trees. Good to know: it is grown and produced entirely in the Netherlands. Vibers is not only a paper type that can be used for graphic productions such as notebooks, business cards, envelopes, letterhead, etc. It is also an alternative to poor fossil fuels such as oil. As a result, Vibers is also widely used for alternatives to plastic.

    Cocoa paper

When you think of cocoa paper, you immediately think of chocolate, and that is right! This paper contains a high proportion of cocoa fibres and is available in a milk and dark variant. Cocoa paper has a luxurious and natural appearance and a striking premium look & feel. A perfect match for luxury packaging of products such as chocolate, sweets and cakes. Or high-quality printed matter for graphic and decorative applications. The paper is available in various weights.

    Jeans paper

Jeans paper consists of 50% fibres from recycled jeans. Thanks to the addition of the jeans fibres, the paper has a soft touch and a characteristic denim-blue colour that create a unique and luxurious appearance. The paper can be printed, creased and folded well and is already used, among other things, in the hobby market and for producing luxurious carrier bags, boxes and labels for packaging, for example… jeans! Jeans paper is available in various weights and formats.

Tomato plant fibre paper or Valorise

Valorise is a special circular paper made from tomato plant fibres. Thanks to the unique recipe, the tomato plant fibres are very subtly visible, giving this paper a particularly appealing, natural appearance. Furthermore, it is an uncoated paper type and suitable for print and offset printing. The paper is easy to crease, pleasant to process and has a high folding endurance, making it also suitable for folders.

    Seed paper with seeds

Seed paper is the trend of the moment. On this sustainable paper with flower seeds, your marketing message, mailing, business card or birth announcement literally comes into bloom. The flower seed paper feels like letter paper. This 100% recycled and biodegradable paper has clearly visible seeds that give the paper a natural structure. It is made from two thin layers of paper glued together with potato starch, with the seeds in between.

The 80 gsm flower seed paper consists of a bee/butterfly mix of 8 different wildflowers, herb mix and carrot seeds.
